Job Description
Summary: Schaefer Engineering, Inc. is growing its forensic engineering team and is seeking an early-career Electrical Engineer on the EIT path who is interested in building a long-term career in forensic electrical engineering. This role involves assisting with forensic investigations, participating in field examinations, and preparing detailed technical documentation while receiving mentorship and training from senior engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting with forensic investigations involving electrical failures, fires, and loss events
- Participating in field examinations, site inspections, and evidence collection
- Supporting investigations from initial scene work through reporting
- Learning forensic methodology and best practices directly from senior engineers and PEs
- Preparing detailed technical documentation and reports
- Gradually growing into increased responsibility and project ownership as skills develop
Required Qualifications:
- Hold an EIT or have passed the FE exam and are eligible to obtain EIT licensure
- Have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited U.S. program
- Are interested in pursuing PE licensure over time (company support provided)
- Enjoy analytical work, troubleshooting, and real‑world problem solving
- Want a long‑term career path rather than a short‑term role
- Are comfortable with field‑based work and frequent travel
- Lifting up to 50 pounds
- Working in confined spaces (crawl spaces, attics, mechanical rooms)
- Climbing ladders and navigating uneven or damaged environments
- Exposure to extreme weather conditions
- Working at post‑incident sites (e.g., fire or loss scenes)
- Holding a valid driver's license and driving as part of the role
