Job Description
Summary: Santa Clara University is seeking a Risk Management Intern to support their risk, insurance, and compliance operations. This role provides hands-on experience with institutional risk assessment and policy implementation, while also offering exposure to internal leaders and external professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to process and policy modernization efforts already underway, including but not limited to:
- DMV Drivers Program
- Youth Protection
- Privacy Policy
- Copyright Guidelines
- Support the management of Certificates of Insurance (COIs), including receipt, review, and compliance tracking
- Help update and maintain Risk Management website content to ensure accuracy and accessibility
- Assist in the organization of insurance claims, incident reports, and compliance documentation
- Assist with Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) initiatives, including data collection and preparation for committee meetings
- Collaborate with campus partners on safety, compliance, and risk training initiatives
- Support rollout of risk platform software by helping refine workflows and procedures
- Support the exchange and review of insurance documentation for claims, and related contracts, programs, and events
- Assist with claims tracking and documentation
- Support the collection of data for insurance renewals and risk assessments
- Serve as a lead student intern supporting the supervision and coordination of Risk Management Office student workers
- Assist with onboarding and training student workers on Risk Management Office responsibilities, processes, and workflows, including documentation standards, compliance tracking, and use of office tools and systems
- Provide day-to-day guidance, task coordination, and quality checks for assigned student work to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely completion
- Support the development and maintenance of training materials, desk guides, and process documentation to promote continuity and knowledge transfer within the office
- Escalate issues, questions, or process gaps to professional staff as appropriate, and contribute suggestions for workflow and training improvements
- Provide administrative support for risk-related events, meetings, and workshops
- Conduct research on best practices and peer benchmarking in higher education risk management
- Maintain databases and records for reporting and compliance purposes
- Assist with assigning and coordinating routine administrative tasks among student workers as directed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Current student in good standing, preferably pursuing a degree in business, finance, law, or a related field
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership experience (e.g., prior student employment, team lead roles, mentoring, or training responsibilities) preferred
- Interest in risk management, compliance, insurance, or university operations preferred
