Job Description
Summary: The Sacramento LGBT Community Center is dedicated to creating a thriving environment for all LGBTQ+ individuals. They are seeking an Economic Justice Program Coordinator to lead their workforce development program, focusing on placing marginalized individuals into secure jobs while providing case management and advocacy.
Responsibilities:
- Lead workforce development program implementation, documentation, and compliance
- Provide case management, client advocacy, support, and secure job placements
- Build a network of LGBTQ+ inclusive employers in the region (Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, and El Dorado Counties)
- Accurately and completely record job seeker/client profile information, all services provided to clients, case notes, and client progress/successes in the client data systems daily per agency guidelines
- Maintain program budget and organizational policy and procedure compliance; ensure all program and grant deliverables are met
- Provide regular written program progress reports, grant deliverable reports, and other data and program evaluation reports as directed by supervisors
- Maintain robust working knowledge of and contribute to the Center’s resource referral database to assist clients in accessing LGBTQIA+ culturally affirming housing, medical and mental health service providers, legal aid, crime victim services, subsidized health insurance coverage, public assistance programs, government issued identification, and other supports that help remove barriers to obtaining and maintaining economic security
- Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence by establishing benchmarks, timelines, and the resources needed to achieve strategic goals, analyze trends and proactively drive outcome improvements as necessary; set standards for accountability and measurements of success
- Be the subject matter expert in economic justice principles and career advancement
- Coordinate quarterly LGBTQ+ career fairs including lead efforts to recruit affirming employers, market to community members, and collaborate with Events and Communications staff to execute successful events
- Coach job seekers to discover and access job training opportunities, financial capabilities, personal wellness strategies, and other tools and resources, monitoring client progress and regularly coaches participants toward employment goals
- Conduct comprehensive, strengths-based assessments for new job seekers to evaluate barriers, inventory skills, and develop Individual Service Plans (ISP)
- Coordinate/facilitate job readiness training workshops including resume and cover letter development, behavior-based interviewing, personal branding, and application support; provide 1:1 client assistance as needed
- Match qualified job seekers with appropriate employers, assist with applications, coordinate interviews, and work towards a minimum 75% placement rate
- Receive and respond efficiently to internal and external referrals, collaborating with referring agencies to report job seeker progress and recommend additional services
- Develop pathways for entry-level employment, career advancement, and upskilling to support long-term career success for job seekers
- Serve as a representative of the organization in collaborative workforce development partner networks and at related community events, conferences, and activities with the intent to develop employment and professional development opportunities for jobseekers
- Develop strong relationships with a broad portfolio of LGBTQ+ affirming employers and secure their commitment to share current job openings and hire job seekers referred by the Center
- Research, design, and cultivate a marketing strategy to highlight the services offered by the Center in collaboration with Communications & Marketing Manager
- Conduct outreach and train volunteers to do outreach at community events and workforce development events, with an emphasis on spaces likely to encounter LGBTQ+ job seekers, economic empowerment organizations, and prospective employer partners
- Collaborate with the Training Institute Manager to support access to LGBQ+ affirming workplace training, equity assessments, and policy development for employers
- Support and advocate for clients of the Center
- Functions as an essential member of the Programs Team and Advocacy & Training Department
- Staff and support events for the Center
- Facilitate or participate in staff meetings, planning meetings, and other meetings as required
- Collaborate with program, development, and operations staff to maximize the reach of Center programs and advocacy efforts
- Cultivate, train, and supervise interns and volunteers that support programs
- Handle a variety of special projects and other related duties, as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and a commitment to serve the most vulnerable community members: transgender/gender non-conforming people, people of color, people with disabilities, people who are marginally housed or experiencing homelessness, unemployed and underemployed people, and low-income people
- Direct client services, project management and/or workforce development experience; ability to solve complex problems and multitask
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; public speaking and workshop facilitation experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in an intersectional environment
- Availability: M-F 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; occasional evening and weekend hours as needed, for EJP and agency-wide events
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Passion for the Center's mission and work to create a region where all LGBTQ+ people can thrive and a commitment to follow all policies and procedures of the organization
- Education and/or Experience: 1-3 years experience in job development, employer recruitment, and/or managing relationships with employer partners required
- 1-3 years experience working directly with LGBTQ+ adults on workforce development or education preferred
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field may be substituted for workforce experience
- Language Skills: Proficiency in English is required
- Access to reliable automobile transportation with a valid driver's license and proof of insurance is required
- Employees must be legally permitted to work in the United States
- The person in this position may be required to move objects up to 50 pounds, ascend/descend stairs, operate office equipment, open and close filing cabinets and boxes, observe visitors, and communicate messages by telephone
Preferred Qualifications:
- Public speaking and workshop facilitation experience preferred
- 1-3 years experience working directly with LGBTQ+ adults on workforce development or education preferred
- Bilingual proficiency in one or more other languages is preferred
- Adobe Suite, Canva, and database software proficiency is preferred
