Job Description
Summary: Trails Park and Recreation District is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for families and individuals in their community through recreational activities. The Dance Program Assistant will assist the primary dance instructor in providing a safe and enjoyable dance experience for children, promoting creative expression and accommodating participants of all skill levels.
Responsibilities:
- Assist primary instructor with scheduled dance classes beginning and ending on time including 15 minute preparation before all classes
- Assist in the development of dance programs including, but not limited to, policies and procedures, class standards, lesson plans, and creation of new cutting edge dance courses in keeping with the TPRD Mission and Vision
- Ability to assist with accommodating participants of all skill levels
- Communicate any issues or concerns that arise within the dance program to primary instructor and/or Cultural Arts Supervisor
- Assist with the enforcing of all policies and procedures set forth by the Trails Recreation Center and TPRD
- Assist in the promotion of positive customer relations with all Trails Recreation Center and District patrons
- Inspects and maintains cleanliness, safety, and general appearance of the dance studio/classroom and all equipment
- Establishes and maintains a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity, and teamwork
- Dress and appearance are consistent with department standards including professionalism and personal hygiene
- Participation in all mandatory department staff meetings and trainings
- Promote various TPRD recreation sponsored programs through classes
- Maintain a positive and friendly attitude while engaged in stressful and/or controversial situations with patrons and co-workers
- Establishes and maintains a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity and teamwork
- Complies with District rules and regulations and policies and procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Training in Dance technique, choreography, theory or a related field
- Ability to assist with modifying dance programs for special populations
- Excellent customer service, organization, and communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all staff and general public
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Possess skills to maintain a safe environment, as well as performing quality work
- Ability to understand, comprehend, and follow all policies and procedures as well as verbalized and written instructions directed by management
- Required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds unassisted
- Ability to talk to and/or hear patrons, managers, and co-workers
- Ability to see objects closely and at a distance
- Ability to deal with moderate to high stress situations at times and maintain a positive attitude
Preferred Qualifications:
- Instructional experience working with youth programming
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and special events
