Job Description
Summary: Recess is a leading beverage company focused on creating functional, better-for-you beverages. The Area Sales Manager will be responsible for ensuring effective retail execution across various channels in Northern California, partnering with distributors and retailers to meet commercial goals.
Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day retail execution across territory, ensuring alignment on sales targets and priorities
- Drive retail execution excellence, including ACV distribution, TPDs, displays, and pricing compliance
- Work closely with the Regional Manager, to cascade regional strategies into local execution
- Participate in distributor sales meetings and blitzes to energize teams and reinforce priorities
- Identify execution gaps and collaborate with distributor teams to develop corrective actions
- Provide reporting on execution KPIs, market trends, and competitor activity to senior leadership
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key retailers and store managers in the market
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience considered
- 1–3 years of CPG beverage experience in retail execution or field sales
- Knowledge of DSD systems and retail execution standards
- Proven ability to deliver against execution KPIs (distribution, displays, compliance)
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with distributor teams and retail partners
- Analytical mindset with proficiency in Excel; familiarity with syndicated data (IRI, Nielsen, SPINS) a plus
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Willingness to travel 60–70% within territory
