Job Description
Summary: Pacific Whale Foundation is a nonprofit organization focused on conservation, outreach, research and education to protect the ocean and its inhabitants. As an intern, you will assist the Education team in delivering summer education programs, gaining experience in marine conservation and education while contributing to curriculum development and classroom management.
Responsibilities:
- Help deliver Ocean Camp and summer education programs under leadership of Education staff
- Contribute to the safe, fun and positive learning environment of our programs
- Maintain a professional relationship with program participants, parents, staff and volunteers
- Ensure the safety of program participants
- Assist with cleaning and maintenance of all supplies and spaces
- Assist with planning and development of curriculum
- Complete all assigned trainings
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- A local resident on Maui
- A high school junior/senior
- Comfortable speaking to large groups of children and adults
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
- Current CPR, First Aid and Lifeguarding certification (willing to attain)
- Must be comfortable working on large vessels and in the ocean, and able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions (heat, humidity, rain, etc.)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
- Experience teaching younger students preferred
- Experience with public speaking & teaching
