As the Commercial Pricing Actuary, you will lead Orion 180’s commercial product expansion and rate development for a rapidly growing insurance company. This high-visibility role offers direct interaction with Orion180’s executive team and external partners, giving you the opportunity to shape the company’s future. You’ll drive continuous improvement in pricing and reserving processes while applying innovative approaches to traditional actuarial challenges.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Commercial Pricing Actuary is responsible for the pricing and product development for the commercial lines property programs. The position works collaboratively with other cross functional business units to implement state and program enhancements designed to achieve growth and profitability goals in line with the company’s business model and enterprise objectives.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Lead all pricing and rate development for the Commercial Lines expansion for the company. Develop processes to establish new non-admitted products and introduce new states.
- Build and maintain stochastic and deterministic pricing models for property risks, integrating catastrophe models (e.g., windstorms, floods, wildfires) into the pricing structure.
- Refine quarterly rate adequacy reviews for both non-catastrophe and catastrophe exposures.
- Serve as a key business partner to portfolio managers and IT, providing technical support, reviewing complex or large accounts, and verifying accurate implementation of pricing tools.
- Work with product owners to proactively manage the rate review process, including the preparation, proposal, and implementation for all pricing changes.
- Work closely with Enterprise Risk Management and Data Science on catastrophe modeling and interpretation as well as pricing, model building and development.
- Participate in the design and development of next-generation pricing tools and internal modeling, including AI-based improvements to actuarial processes.
- Support the recalibration of existing pricing models by analyzing external or internal claims and exposure data to enhance proprietary pricing factors and models.
- Assist with quarterly and annual reserving process, including interaction with leaders across Orion180, external actuaries and auditors, and preparing reports and presentations for senior actuarial leadership.
- Work closely with product owners to monitor current rate levels and pricing enhancements that coincide with market trends and consumer expectations with the goal of achieving and maintaining growth and profitability.
- Work closely with product owners and IT to provide requirements for pricing and product enhancements designed to produce efficient, accurate and compliant product presentation, quoting, and policy issuance.
- Continuously improve our analytics and data-driven decision-making capabilities and operating efficiency and quality.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
Education and Work Authorization
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in similar work. ACAS or near ACAS required for this position.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship (U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder)
Experience
- 5+ years of commercial lines pricing experience necessary. Experience working closely with business units and P&L management would be highly preferred.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with next-gen actuarial pricing and statistical tools and experience in implementation preferred.
- Advanced data and statistical programming skills including SQL, R, SAS or Python, with strong proficiency in Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability of providing strategic recommendations. • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
- Proven ability to achieve ambitious goals in an innovative and demanding environment. Ability to look at standard actuarial challenges in novel ways.
- Strategic Thinking: Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to develop strategies informed by research, data, and industry trends.

The office environment is fast-paced and collaborative. An employee must be willing and able to work their regularly assigned work schedule onsite, and in times of need, be able to work an extended schedule depending on company or departmental needs, project requirements, or customer demands.
