Job Description
Summary: Onto Innovation is a leader in process control, focusing on advanced technologies in the semiconductor industry. The Mechanical Systems Engineer Intern will assist in troubleshooting electromechanical systems, support system design and testing, and contribute to process optimization efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in troubleshooting electromechanical systems under the guidance of senior engineers, identifying root causes and supporting corrective actions
- Help reduce production labor, cycle time, and material cost through mechanical design improvements and process optimization
- Read, understand, and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and system-level documentation, recommending and implementing updates as needed
- Use diagnostic and measurement tools (e.g., calipers, torque tools, sensors, multimeters, oscilloscopes) to analyze mechanical and mechatronic system performance
- Collaborate with manufacturing, electrical, and systems engineering teams to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and utilization
- Review End-of-Life (EOL) components and support redesign efforts using currently available mechanical or electromechanical components
- Assist in improving system documentation, design standards, and test procedures
- Document test results, troubleshooting steps, design changes, and recommendations to support future improvements and product scalability
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Ideal candidates will be graduating this year or in 2027
- Basic understanding of electrical circuits, troubleshooting, and schematic reading
- Familiarity with electrical diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Eagerness to learn and apply engineering principles in a real-world setting
