Job Description
Summary: NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a Summer Intern for their Surveys, Research & Analytics team. The intern will support the transition to predictive analytics by conducting usability audits, analyzing member feedback, and documenting technical processes.
Responsibilities:
- Leading the Mobile Gap Usability Audit, conducting end-to-end walkthroughs of digital features on various mobile devices to identify technical bugs and friction points
- Perform the Voice of the Member Deep-Dive, which involves coding and categorizing 12 months of qualitative feedback from across the agency to quantify the root causes of member frustration
- Act as technical writers for the Knowledge Vault project, shadowing leadership to document 100% of active data pipelines and strategic protocols in formal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Build a Validated Question Database, researching industry-standard metrics to create a searchable library of high-quality survey instruments
Required Qualifications:
- As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year)
- Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year
Preferred Qualifications:
- As daily users of various mobile platforms (iOS/Android), students must have the ability to observe and document technical glitches or confusing layouts during digital walkthroughs
- Interns need the ability to shadow customer service operations to understand the member's perspective and translate those experiences into research narratives
- Proficiency with basic spreadsheet software (like Excel or Google Sheets) is required to categorize survey comments and maintain a searchable library of survey questions
- Students must be able to write clear, step-by-step instructions for the Knowledge Vault (SOPs)
- Success in this role requires a high degree of accuracy when checking data for errors or normalizing figures to ensure long-term integrity
- The ability to look at qualitative feedback (member comments) and identify repeating themes or pain points to help explain the 'Why' behind the data
- A willingness to ask questions, shadow leadership, and learn new technical tools like Tableau or advanced survey platforms
