Job Description
Summary: The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is dedicated to securing better futures for NYC educators through the Teachers’ Retirement System. They are seeking a Summer Intern Payroll to assist with payroll and timekeeping resources, manage employee folders, and ensure compliance with union agreements.
Responsibilities:
- Update and enhance Payroll and Timekeeping resources on the TRS' Intranet, ensuring information is current
- Organize and consolidate employee folders, verifying accuracy and maintaining strict confidentiality standards
- Manage the transfer of archived Payroll/HR files to storage, ensuring a well-documented process for easy retrieval
- Assist with storage room reorganization, including securely shredding outdated documents and optimizing space
- Standardize labeling systems for cabinets and folders to improve accessibility
- Utilize Excel to update and maintain Managerial Time Balance Sheets, ensuring data integrity and accuracy
- Audit employee salaries to ensure compliance with union agreements, identifying discrepancies as needed
Required Qualifications:
- As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year)
- Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all tasks
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, for data management and analysis
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating initiative and teamwork
- Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information
- Adaptability and flexibility, with the ability to manage shifting priorities effectively
