Job Description
Summary: Hennepin County Library is seeking teens ages 16-18 to join the Best Buy Teen Tech Center - Teen Tech Squad to facilitate creative learning experiences in digital media for other teens. The role involves guiding participants through hands-on activities and promoting creative expression in a safe environment.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate creative learning experiences focused on technology for teens
- Guide participants through hands-on and project-based activities
- Promote creative expression by cultivating a safe and open environment for participants to create and share
- Work with other Best Buy Teen Tech Center staff to develop, lead, demonstrate, trouble-shoot, and instruct others in the creation of multimedia projects and learning activities
- Learn how to use music, video production, photo-editing, and 3D printing software such as LogicPro, Adobe Premier, Blender, Photoshop, and Tinkercad
- Learn and use techniques for facilitating technology workshops and creative expression in a collaborative setting
Required Qualifications:
- Must be between the ages of 16-18 by July 2026
- Work onsite in downtown Minneapolis at the Minneapolis Central Library at 300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55401
- Ability and willingness to work on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. or Tuesdays and Thursdays 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. and attend training on the second Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m
- These internships are intended to start August 2026, are year-round, and last up to two years or until the intern turns 20 years old
- Access to reliable and consistent transportation to the Minneapolis Central Library
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with children or teens in a volunteer or work setting
- Experience working as part of a team
- Experience using technology to create something or solve a problem (e.g., a presentation, a website, a video, a piece of art or music, a robotics solution, etc.)
- Good communication and leadership skills
- An outgoing and friendly attitude
- Curiosity and an interest in technology, math, science, music, art, video, and/or writing
- Desire to share skills and interests with others
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic workplace
- Ability to work in a diverse community setting
- Ability to apply creativity and problem-solving skills to design projects or develop ideas
- Ability to follow directions and incorporate feedback from supervisor
