Trades Technician

Summary: New Hanover County is seeking a Trades Technician to perform repairs and maintenance on County facilities. The role includes general maintenance tasks such as painting, plumbing, and carpentry, while ensuring the upkeep of all county owned buildings and facilities. Responsibilities: - Assists with construction and renovation of County buildings and facilities and identifying needed repairs - Performs repairs on County facilities including: painting; plumbing; roof and soffit; drywall and siding; doors and locks; windows; and cabinets and installing/removing furnishings - Maintains tools and equipment - Estimates materials and equipment necessary for projects and assigned tasks - Research equipment and material needs for projects and assist in obtaining quotes and managing contracted work - Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned by Supervisor - Performs work during emergency/disaster situations - Serves in the on-call pool Required Qualifications: - High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and one year of related maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above - Valid Driver's License (from any state) and good driving record required at time of application - Valid North Carolina Drivers License required by first date of employment with good driving record Required Skills: Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting, Drywall installation, Masonry, Reading architectural drawings, Installing locks, door hardware, Basic construction methods, building codes, Safe handling of power tools Benefits: Competitive benefits package
