Job Description
Summary: The Minnesota Historical Society is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Production Assistant to support all phases of production for a documentary series. This hands-on role requires strong communication skills and a passion for documentary storytelling, with responsibilities including assisting in production planning, managing materials, and coordinating logistics.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing interview materials and research packets for guests
- Help gather and organize archival materials for interview segments
- Coordinate schedules, confirm logistics, prep call sheets, and support production planning
- Prepare and organize release forms and production documents
- Assist with guest arrival and on-set coordination
- Ensure all release forms are completed and properly documented
- Support crew with basic set preparation and breakdown
- Take detailed notes during interviews, identifying key moments and story beats
- Help manage equipment, media cards, and production materials
- Assist in creating interview multi-cam sequences from multi-camera footage
- Help clean and refine interview transcripts to accurately reflect spoken dialogue
- Organize and label footage, project files, and archival materials
- Scan, upload, and catalog release forms and archival assets
- Assist story producers in pulling selects from transcripts and organizing footage into story themes
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student, or have graduated within the past 12 months at the time of application
- Ideal candidates might be currently pursuing, or have graduated with a degree in the following areas: History, Archival Science/Library Science, Journalism/Media Studies, Film Studies/Media Production, Public History/Museum Studies
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to take initiative and anticipate production needs
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
- Professional demeanor when interacting with interview guests
- Passion for storytelling and documentary filmmaking
