Critical Environment Technician INTERN

Summary: Microsoft is a leading cloud services provider, and they are seeking a Critical Environment Technician Intern to support their Cloud Infrastructure and Operations team. The role involves performing basic tasks related to monitoring and maintaining critical facility equipment in data centers, while ensuring compliance with safety and security requirements. Responsibilities: - Performs assigned basic tasks, including routine monitoring and visual inspection of critical facility equipment - Uses the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track equipment assets and complete maintenance work orders - Assists with emergency monitoring and response under supervision, following established emergency operating procedures (EOPs) - Performs various types of maintenance and conducts basic troubleshooting, with support for complex issues as needed - Escorts third-party contractors and vendors on site in accordance with established levels of risk (LOR) procedures - Prepares and submits required reports and develops an understanding of method statements of work (MSOW) - Follows and ensures compliance with all safety and security requirements Required Qualifications: - Pursuing or recently completed a degree or technical program in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Facilities Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field, with a demonstrated interest in mission‑critical infrastructure, data center operations, or facilities engineering - Safety focus and attention to detail, with the ability to follow strict procedures (including PPE), identify and report abnormal conditions, and demonstrate a growth mindset with eagerness to learn and accept feedback - Basic proficiency with computer systems and digital tools, and the ability to work effectively in a hands‑on, team‑based operational environment - Past or current Microsoft Data Center Academy Student - Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter Preferred Qualifications: - Coursework, labs, or hands‑on exposure to electrical systems, mechanical systems, HVAC, generators, UPS, or building automation systems - Prior internship, co‑op, lab, or work experience in facilities, utilities, manufacturing, construction, or technical operations - Familiarity with preventive maintenance concepts, standard operating procedures, or technical checklists - Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work alongside technicians, engineers, and cross‑functional partners - Interest in pursuing a long‑term career in Critical Environments or Data Center Operations, including continued technical qualification and development Required Skills: Electrical systems, Mechanical systems, HVAC, Facilities engineering, Data center operations, Computer systems proficiency, Digital tools proficiency, Preventive maintenance, Standard operating procedures, Technical checklists, Safety focus, Growth mindset
