Overview
The Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA) Headquarters team is seeking a Communications Manager-Social & Digital to shape and execute a focused executive digital voice strategy.
This role will deliver high-impact, issues-based storytelling across social and digital channels, centered on Washington state policy priorities, community engagement, and philanthropy. The goal is to build a credible, trusted, and human executive voice that reflects Microsoft’s leadership at the intersection of technology, society, and local impact.
We are looking for a modern digital communicator and experimenter. Someone who is eager to push beyond traditional corporate storytelling, pilot new formats, test emerging platforms, and evolve how executive voice shows up in a fast-changing social landscape. This role will define and evolve a modern, credible executive voice—experimenting with new ways to communicate on issues that matter locally and globally, while ensuring Microsoft’s presence is trusted, relevant, and ahead of the curve in digital engagement.
Responsibilities
Executive Social & Digital Strategy
·Develop and execute a focused, modern social and digital strategy for executive voice, aligned to:
oWashington state policy priorities
oCommunity engagement and local impact
oPhilanthropy and corporate citizenship
·Continuously test and evolve approaches to how executive voice shows up across platforms and formats
·Ensure alignment with enterprise narratives while maintaining a distinct, authentic, and forward-looking voice
Content Development & Storytelling
·Create and manage high-quality, always-on content, including:
oSocial posts and threads (primarily LinkedIn and emerging platforms)
oShort- and long-form written content
oVideo and innovative multimedia storytelling formats
·Translate complex policy, legal, and community topics into clear, human, and engaging narratives
·Bring a test-and-learn mindset to content, piloting new formats, tone, and channel strategies
·Support timely, thoughtful engagement on relevant issues as they intersect with executive priorities
·Apply strong judgment in high-visibility or sensitive moments, including message disciplie, accuracy, and appropriate tone and escalation
·Track performance and sentiment for executive channels
·Use insights and experimentation outcomes to continuously refine strategy, voice, and engagement
Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 2+ years experience in communications, social media, or digital storytelling, or related experience
OR equivalent experience.
Additional or preferred qualifications
Experience supporting executive voice, thought leadership, or high-visibility communicators
Writing and editorial skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics
Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to experiment with new digital formats and platforms
Proven ability to operate with sound judgment in issues-sensitive environments
Experience working cross-functionally in fast-paced, matrixed organizations
Familiarity with public policy, legal, or regulatory environments
Experience in regional or community-based storytelling (e.g., state/local policy, philanthropy)
Experience using analytics tools to evaluate digital performan
Communications IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $86,100 - $169,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $113,300 - $187,400 per year.
