We are seeking a talented individual to join our Trustee Office team at Mercer Super. This role will be based in Melbourne or Sydney. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
The Mercer Superannuation (Australia) Limited (Mercer Super) Trustee Office supports the Mercer Super Board to meet its fiduciary obligations by providing appropriate governance advice and ensuring strong and effective governance frameworks are in place to support operation of the Mercer Super Trust.
Reporting to the Operational Governance Leader, the Governance Officer is a shared support resource role supporting multiple Governance Leaders within the Trustee Office. The role involves managing adherence to governance and regulatory frameworks across investment, insurance, outsourcing, and operational areas, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, and contributing to governance projects and initiatives.
We will count on you to:
Support Governance Leaders with oversight responsibilities of Mercer Super’s adherence to governance and regulatory frameworks, including reviewing meeting papers and compliance sign-offs.
Assist with tracking governance-related obligations, maintaining governance registers and repositories, and ensuring documentation is audit-ready.
Liaise with multiple management teams, risk & compliance, internal audit, and external auditors to address trustee obligation queries.
Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve templates, and strengthen governance documentation and controls.
Support management and oversight of internal governance documentation, ensuring regular review and stakeholder buy-in.
Undertake projects or activities on behalf of the Trustee Office and represent the office in cross-business projects.
Support risk management by ensuring compliance with frameworks, assisting in risk identification and mitigation, and contributing to risk awareness initiatives.
What you need to have:
Tertiary qualifications in a business or legal related discipline.
Experience in the superannuation industry or governance role is desirable.
Working knowledge of a trustee’s role and responsibilities and the superannuation regulatory framework.
Understanding of superannuation fund structures, products, risks, and stakeholder roles.
Strong organisational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, communication, and influencing skills.
Sound judgment and ability to make timely decisions.
Self-motivated with a professional attitude and ability to work autonomously.
Ability to handle potential conflicts related to related party relationships.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to express complex ideas simply.
Ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
