Elementary / Middle School Counselor Position
USD 421 Lyndon Schools
Anticipated Start Date: August 13, 2026
USD 421 is seeking a student-centered, relationship-driven Elementary/Middle School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and career development of students. This position plays a vital role in strengthening our Positive Behavior Supports and fostering a positive school culture for all learners.
Primary Responsibilities

Provide individual and group counseling to support student social-emotional growth

Support academic planning and student goal setting

Assist with behavioral interventions and positive behavior supports

Collaborate with teachers, families, and administration to meet student needs

Coordinate student support services and referrals
-
Promote career awareness and readiness (developmentally appropriate)

Maintain appropriate documentation and confidentiality standards
Required Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following:
Preferred (Fully Licensed)
-
Valid Kansas School Counselor License issued by the Kansas State Department of Education
(PreK–12 School Specialist – School Counselor)
Consideration Pathway (Conditional/Alternative)
-
Eligible for KSDE School Counselor licensure OR
-
Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling) with willingness to pursue appropriate KSDE licensure
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students
-
Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and MTSS frameworks
-
Strong collaboration and communication skills
-
Experience supporting diverse student populations and family engagement
Additional Considerations
-
Candidates with a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) or related field may be considered for supportive roles aligned to student services, with the expectation of working toward appropriate KSDE licensure if serving in a counseling capacity

Placement on the certified salary schedule will be based on licensure status
