Job Description
Summary: LP Hospitality Group is a unique operation that includes the Michelin-acclaimed Cull & Pistol Oyster Bar and the Lobster Place Seafood Hall. They are seeking a Retail Fish Cutter Summer Intern to develop seafood knowledge and knife skills while providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced seafood market.
Responsibilities:
- Take and prepare customer orders, including cleaning, portioning, and packaging seafood product
- Assist Fish Cutters with daily seafood preparation and learn proper cutting, cleaning, and portioning techniques under supervision
- Deliver excellent customer service to guests at the seafood market counter
- Merchandise, stock, rotate, and organize seafood products and packaging supplies as needed
- Develop in-depth knowledge of seafood products in the section
- Support AM setup and PM breakdown of the seafood counter and fish cutting areas
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation
- Read tickets and prepare customer orders accurately
- Learn and retain product knowledge and fish cutting techniques from experienced Fish Cutters and market leadership
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and NYC health department standards
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with co-workers and managers
- Follow work schedule and arrive prepared for each shift
Required Qualifications:
- Strong basic knife skills required
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment, learn quickly, and show initiative
- Good time management and communication skills
- Willing to learn from and take direction from experienced Fish Cutters
- Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in customer service, food preparation, culinary training, or working with seafood preferred
- Understanding of NYC health department codes preferred
