Job Description
Summary: The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) is seeking an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Operations Intern in the Customer Operations Department. The AMI Intern will support continuous improvement project work and day-to-day operations, learning from a mentor in the AMI Department.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize PC to enter, retrieve and update customer information on BWL's Customer Information System, e.g., new service requests, account adjustments, deposits, billing account itemizations, etc
- Utilize system data to maintain project work schedules, monitor completed jobs and assist with management of work assigned to field service
- Run reports for monthly dashboard reports and ensure accuracy of data
- Monitor material orders - follow up and confirm lead times
- Assist with AMI network troubleshooting to include site visits and updating records
- Assist with workspaces and files
- Document processes and create procedures, manuals, and training modules for associated tasks
- Maintain and purge data items per BWL's data retention policies
- Assist with project-related items
- Required to follow BWL Safety Manual and wear personal protective equipment for all field work
- Attends training and safety awareness and/or skills improvement as required by the BWL or government agency such as MIOSHA
- Expected to comply with all BWL policies and work rules
- Predictable and reliable attendance
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution with a focus on Computer, Data Science, Business, or a related field with junior or senior status during the summer of 2026
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Must be enrolled full time in an accredited school for fall 2026 term
- Must successfully complete a background check, a substance screening and a physical (if applicable)
