This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced claims professional to manage complex construction defect liability cases within a dynamic and fast-paced insurance environment. Working closely with legal counsel, experts, and internal stakeholders, you will lead investigations, oversee litigation strategies, and negotiate optimal claim outcomes. The position requires strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate complex legal and insurance issues with confidence. Accountabilities:
- Manage complex construction defect commercial liability claims from assignment through resolution.
- Evaluate coverage issues, identify risk transfer opportunities, and ensure accurate reserve setting for all assigned claims.
- Oversee investigations into claim circumstances and coordinate with experts, consultants, and legal counsel when necessary.
- Develop and implement effective claims handling and negotiation strategies to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Analyze claim exposures and communicate findings clearly to internal stakeholders, insured parties, legal representatives, and external partners.
- Direct litigation management activities, including mediation preparation, settlement negotiations, and trial coordination when applicable.
- Ensure compliance with internal claims handling standards, legal requirements, and best practices throughout the claims lifecycle.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and leadership to support efficient claim resolution and operational excellence.
- Participate in mediations, trials, hearings, and related meetings, including occasional travel as required.
- Maintain accurate documentation and utilize digital claims systems effectively to manage claim files and reporting activities.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience managing or litigating construction defect commercial liability claims.
- Strong technical expertise in complex claims handling, insurance coverage analysis, and litigation management.
- Solid understanding of construction defect exposures, risk transfer strategies, and liability claim resolution processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and professionally.
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution abilities with proven success managing high-exposure claims.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys, experts, insured parties, brokers, and internal stakeholders.
- High level of analytical thinking, sound judgment, and decision-making capabilities in complex claim situations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with digital claims management systems and general computer applications.
- Adaptability and the ability to respond effectively to changing priorities, business needs, and claim developments.
- Home state adjuster license preferred.
- Professional designations such as CPCU or AIC certification are considered an asset.
