Senior Business Growth Manager - Water Industry

The Senior Business Growth Manager plays a crucial leadership role within the sales and marketing teams. This role focuses on key customers, markets, and product initiatives. This management role leverages deep industry expertise in the water sector helping to drive Itron’s Water line of business growth by managing strategic objectives and fostering partnerships with key stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and execute innovative, complex, and strategic business growth initiatives that advance Itron’s Water line of business, ensuring accountability to performance metrics, KPIs, and action plans.
Collaborate closely with sales, marketing, and cross‑functional teams to design and deliver agile, customer‑centric sales and go‑to‑market strategies for water utility customers.
Analyze, synthesize, and clearly communicate market dynamics, regulatory considerations, and competitive intelligence to inform data‑driven strategic decisions.
Build, maintain, and authentically engage strong relationships with water industry consultants involved in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), effectively articulating Itron’s differentiated technology value.
Establish collaborative partnerships with key installation contractors to support the successful execution of large‑scale AMI deployments.
Review and assess customer RFPs, developing comprehensive and competitive pursuit strategies, including partner selection, technology alignment, and competitor analysis.
Proactively anticipate risks and resolve complex customer and project challenges, maintaining a strong focus on customer success and long‑term value realization.
Partner across Itron teams and with external stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and pursue new business and growth opportunities.
Serve as a trusted advisor on business development initiatives and provide oversight or guidance to service and support functions as needed.
Demonstrate deep expertise in water utility operating environments and Itron’s technology portfolio, communicating effectively with technical, commercial, and executive audiences.
Contribute directly to Itron’s revenue growth, profitability, innovation goals, and market leadership through accountable execution and continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as business, marketing, environmental science, engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Demonstrated experience supporting business growth, strategic planning, or customer engagement within the utilities, water, or energy technology sectors.
Strong understanding of customer‑centric sales and marketing principles, including relationship management with utilities and ecosystem partners.
Ability to analyze complex information, solve multifaceted problems, and develop innovative, pragmatic solutions.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical, operational, and market insights for diverse stakeholders.
Collaborative mindset with the agility to work across teams, adapt to changing priorities, and drive results in a dynamic environment.
Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% as required.
Ability to perform the essential functions of a typical office‑based role without special physical requirements.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Prior experience in the water industry, particularly with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), smart water technologies, or utility services.
Familiarity with water utility regulatory frameworks, infrastructure challenges, and emerging market trends.
Proven success in business development, strategic account management, or growth leadership roles within a technology‑driven organization.
Experience collaborating with consultants, contractors, and channel partners on complex infrastructure or technology deployments.
Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and lead through authenticity, accountability, and trust.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills and experience and may vary by location. The base salary is $125,000-218,000 annually. This position is eligible for our Sales Incentive Plan.
