Job Description
Summary: Hermeus is a high-speed aircraft manufacturer focused on the rapid design, build, and test of high-Mach and hypersonic aircraft for the national interest. This internship role involves supporting project planning, translating design concepts into detailed designs, and collaborating with cross-functional teams in the aerospace domain.
Responsibilities:
- Support project planning and help track hardware deliverables against aggressive timelines
- Assist in translating high-level design concepts into detailed designs, including geometry, material selection, and manufacturability considerations (DFM)
- Contribute to prototype builds and support early-stage production efforts for aerospace assemblies
- Identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce waste, and improve workflow efficiency
- Assist in developing build processes, including tooling, test setups, and integration workflows
- Support the development and execution of test procedures for flight hardware
- Collaborate cross-functionally with production, test, and design teams to support program goals
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing, or related engineering field
- Hands-on experience with physical hardware (internships, labs, project teams all count)
- Proven ability to design, build, break, and iterate quickly
- Comfort with CAD, test equipment, hand tools
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes (machining, welding, forming, etc.) and GD&T fundamentals
- Strong understanding of engineering first principles
- Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams
- Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus' mission
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- GPA of 3.0 or above
- Must be willing to travel to test sites, other Hermeus offices, and partner locations as needed (up to 25% travel)
- The person hired will have access to information and items subject to U.S. export controls, and therefore, must either be a 'U.S. person' as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.62 or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing
Preferred Qualifications:
- Designed and released flight hardware
- Familiarity with Siemens Teamcenter and NX
- Leadership experience on project teams or in mentorship roles
- You've built something that's flown, broken, or both
- Exposure to or interest in supporting production line setup or test infrastructure in fast-paced environments
