The Role GrizzlyTrek is seeking one Hydrovac Swamper to join our value-added client's team in Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is a camp-based, full-time position offering year-round work on a multi-year contract, with a 14 days on, 7 days off rotation. Working alongside the Hydrovac Operator, you will operate the back end of the hydrovac truck to safely excavate and expose underground utilities while following all safety protocols and regulations. This role calls for strong mechanical aptitude, close attention to detail, and the ability to perform in physically demanding field conditions. Swamper experience is mandatory; applications without it will not be considered. What You'll Do
- Operate the back end of the hydrovac truck to safely excavate and expose underground utilities, pipelines, oil and gas lines, and cables, including sloughing work
- Conduct pre-trip inspections and equipment checks in accordance with company procedures
- Use bonding and grounding equipment appropriately and consistently
- Follow proper lock-out/tag-out and ground disturbance procedures
- Adhere to all applicable safety standards, including Alberta OH&S regulations and SOPs
- Accurately complete and submit daily reports, inspections, and other required documentation
- Prepare work areas by setting up safety measures and addressing potential hazards
- Maintain the cleanliness and readiness of tools, equipment, hydrovac units, and vehicles
- Attend safety meetings and collaborate with supervisors, clients, and crew members to ensure safe, efficient site operations
What You Bring
- Proven hydrovac swamper experience (mandatory)
- Experience in the utility or construction industry
- Familiarity with bonding, grounding, confined space entry, and sloughing protocols
- Knowledge of lock-out/tag-out and ground disturbance procedures
- Strong safety focus and knowledge of applicable regulations
- Ability to work independently under physically demanding conditions
- Ability to lift, push, and pull 50+ pounds with the physical stamina for manual labor in varying weather conditions
- Willingness to complete mandatory drug and alcohol testing

Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of hydrovac experience
- Experience mentoring junior operators or working as part of a field operations team
