Organic Gardening, Permaculture & Regenerative Farming Intern

Summary: GoodWork Environmental Jobs is seeking an Organic Gardening, Permaculture & Regenerative Farming Intern to join Two Roads Farm. The role involves participating in various farming tasks such as seeding, harvesting, and pest management while working collaboratively on a small-scale family farm committed to agroecological practices. Responsibilities: - Seeding, transplanting, crop management (pruning, trellising, etc.), harvesting - Field preparation, weeding, pest management - Processing and packing produce, and creating value-added products - Assisting with equipment and infrastructure building and maintenance - Supporting marketing and sales Required Qualifications: - Legally allowed to work in Canada – Canadian citizen or resident, or have a work visa valid to October 31. Unfortunately, we are unable to sponsor international applicants - Able to safely and repeatedly lift 40lbs - Able to safely perform tasks that require repeated motions and extended periods of bending, squatting, and kneeling - Able to work effectively and safely and maintain a positive outlook in all types of weather, including hot sun, cold temperatures, mud, and persistent rain - Reliable, responsible and punctual - Able to learn and work quickly and efficiently while maintaining quality in a fast-paced, varied work environment - Able to be adaptable and flexible in the face of unpredictable and changing weather, situations and seasons - Able to communicate openly and effectively to build and maintain respectful, inclusive and functional working relationships with the rest of our farm team - Able to work safely and respectfully around dogs, cats, children and heavy machinery - Able to be on the farm for 6am start times - accommodation on Denman Island is necessary to meet this requirement - Have reliable transportation to and from the farm Preferred Qualifications: - A drivers' license and ability to drive manual transmission vehicles is an asset - May have previous experience with fast-paced, physical and outdoor work environments Required Skills: Physical stamina, Outdoor work, Manual labor, Crop management, Pest management, Harvesting, Packing produce, Equipment maintenance, Driving manual transmission vehicles, Punctuality Benefits: Challenging, fulfilling work – you will be feeding a farm-connected community and caring for the land we farm, while getting lots of fresh air and exercise!, Lots of farm veggie seconds and overstock to take home - we eat very very well!, Opportunities for learning about small scale agroecological farming and running a small land-based business - if you have land-based career goals, please feel welcome to share these in your application., Potential for an end of season bonus for team members who work to the end of the season, Experiencing life in a small and beautiful rural island community – lots of community activities and events, beaches, lakes and forests to explore after work!
