Vice President, US Medical Neurology
Location: South San Francisco
We are seeking a transformational Vice President, US Medical – Neurology to lead a highly strategic and complex medical organization focused on advancing innovation, scientific leadership, actively incorporating population health principles that lead to measurable patient impact across the neurology portfolio.
This leader will shape and execute a modern medical affairs vision that is externally informed, enterprise aligned, patient-centered, and grounded in scientific excellence. The VP will serve as a key member of the US Medical Leadership Team and a trusted partner to the Head of US Medical and peers, helping to advance enterprise priorities, organizational excellence, and a high-performing culture.
The ideal candidate brings strong external orientation and scientific credibility within the Neurology practitioner community while also demonstrating exceptional ability to align across internal stakeholders, including Genentech US Medical therapeutic area leaders, global medical leadership, and cross-functional enterprise teams. Success in this role requires balancing strategic leadership for Neurology with enterprise thinking, collaboration, and organizational alignment.
This role requires an accomplished and agile leader who thrives in complexity by creating clarity, leads with optimism and accountability, builds strong partnerships, and helps enthusiastically shape the future of US Medical through innovation, collaboration, and transformational leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Medical Leadership
Develop and execute an integrated medical strategy for the neurology portfolio aligned with enterprise and patient priorities
Shape the future direction of neurology medical affairs through innovation, scientific leadership, and operational excellence
Drive launch readiness years ahead of anticipated launches, and lifecycle medical strategy across the portfolio
Translate scientific, patient needs/care gaps, and clinical insights into measurable, impactful medical strategies that improve patient outcomes and healthcare delivery
Anticipate and addresses emerging trends in neuroscience, evidence generation, digital health, and stakeholder engagement
Ensure medical strategies are aligned with broader US and Global Medical priorities and organizational objectives without hesitation
Enterprise & Cross-Functional Leadership
Serve as an enterprise leader within US Medical, contributing beyond Neurology to advance organizational priorities, culture, and capabilities across Genentech USM
Build strong collaborative partnerships across therapeutic area leaders to drive alignment, share best practices, and foster a unified “One Medical” mindset
Partner effectively with global medical leadership to ensure strategic alignment and strong coordination across US and global priorities
Collaborate closely across Medical, Clinical Development, Marketing, Commercial, Market Access, HEOR, Regulatory, Safety, Patient Advocacy, Public Affairs, and Field Medical organizations
Operate with enterprise perspective and organizational agility, balancing therapeutic area priorities with broader business and patient needs
Build strong alignment with the Head of US Medical Affairs and help translate organizational vision into execution, culture, and measurable impact
Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, accountability, and shared success across headquarter teams and field medical teams
Scientific & External Engagement Leadership
Maintain existing, establish new critical relationships/partnerships, and maintain strong scientific credibility with healthcare professionals, community and academic institutions, patient advocacy groups, and key external stakeholders across neurology
Lead external engagement strategy and represent the organization at scientific congresses, advisory boards, and other key forums
Drive high-quality scientific exchange in deep collaboration with field teams, and evidence dissemination with integrity and patient focus
Ensure external insights are effectively translated into actionable medical strategy and organizational learning across the enterprise
Evidence Generation & Innovation
Oversee integrated evidence generation strategies that are multimodal in approach and includes customized approaches to real-world evidence, investigator-sponsored research, health outcomes research, and publication planning and other appropriate approaches
Champion innovative approaches to medical insights, digital engagement, analytics, and evidence generation
Advance modern medical affairs capabilities including AI-enabled insights, omni channel engagement, and data-driven decision-making in close collaboration with teams within the enterprise
Ensure medical strategies incorporate patient perspectives and evolving healthcare system needs
Drive continuous improvement and modernization of medical affairs capabilities and operating models
Organizational Leadership & Talent Development
Lead and demonstrate what a high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative neuroscience medical organization operates like within the “One Medical” context
Build a culture grounded in accountability, agility, collaboration, inspiration with action to make it real, innovation, transparency, and continuous learning
Develop future leaders and strengthen organizational capability through coaching, mentorship, and talent planning

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Advanced scientific or clinical degree required (MD, PhD, or equivalent); MD preferred
Minimum 15+ years of biopharmaceutical industry experience with significant medical affairs leadership responsibility
Deep expertise in neurology/neuroscience and recognition in this practitioner environment
Proven success leading complex, matrixed medical affairs organizations
Demonstrated experience in launch excellence, lifecycle strategy, and evidence generation
Strong understanding of the evolving healthcare ecosystem including payer, policy, and patient dynamics
Exceptional leadership, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills
Demonstrated ability to influence across highly matrixed US and Global organizations
Preferred Qualifications
Experience leading organizational transformation or capability modernization initiatives
Experience integrating digital innovation, analytics, and AI-enabled approaches into medical affairs highly preferred
Global or international leadership experience
Track record of building high-performing teams and inclusive cultures
Experience collaborating across multiple therapeutic areas within enterprise leadership structures
Demonstrated success driving cross-functional alignment and enterprise change initiatives

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $356,160 - $467,460. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
