Laboratory Technician I - CASC

The Laboratory Technician I will perform routine and non-routine chemical and metallurgical analytical tasks, prepare samples for analysis, and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Responsibilities: - Perform routine and non-routine chemical and/or metallurgical analytical tasks at assigned site - May collect samples which could include collection from rail cars or trucks in some locations - Prepare samples for analysis using established tests and techniques - Assists with/performs routine chemical and/or metallurgical analysis and reporting - Maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment - Perform other duties as required Required Qualifications: - Demonstrated knowledge of math, chemistry and/or computer skills appropriate to the assignment - Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing - Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions - Candidates may be required to pass a medical exam - Candidates must pass all required training and/or testing - Employees may be required to work a non-standard schedule, which may include shift work (other than day shift) at a 24/7, 365-day operation - Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment using mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going drug and alcohol testing, as allowed by applicable laws Preferred Qualifications: - High School diploma or GED - Experience with mathematic and/or numbers-based tasks - Experience with chemical sample preparation and/or analysis - Ability to follow detailed, technical instructions - Experience with tedious or repetitive motions or tasks - Strong organizational and documentation skills - Strong proficiency using MS Excel to develop and maintain spreadsheets reports, and other documentation Required Skills: Chemical analysis, Metallurgical analysis, Sample preparation, Mathematics, MS Excel, Laboratory instrumentation maintenance, Effective oral communication, Effective written communication Benefits: Affordable medical, dental and vision benefits, Company-paid life and disability insurance, 401(k) plan with employer contribution/match, Paid time off, paid sick time, holiday pay, parental leave, Tuition assistance, Employee Assistance Program, Discounted insurance plans for pet, auto, home and vehicle, Internal progression opportunities
