Job Description
Summary: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization focused on cancer treatment and research. They are seeking a temporary Full Time Research Technician I to perform laboratory work supporting scientific research, including conducting experiments and maintaining laboratory equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with experimental mouse analysis, including organ/tissue dissections and cell counting
- Perform DNA isolations and run PCR and qPCR
- Participate in mouse work, which may include husbandry, handling, tissue sampling, health assessments, and preparing and performing treatment injections
- May perform data analysis and interpretation
- Proactively prepare and maintain laboratory reagents and media, check and replenish supplies, prepare glassware and instruments for cleaning, and deliver autoclaved materials to storage areas
- Maintain a clean and orderly laboratory area
- Carry out maintenance, troubleshooting and QC of laboratory equipment
- Perform other duties as required to ensure the smooth running of the lab
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated scientific knowledge in the area of study
- Demonstrated basic laboratory skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exceptional attention to detail, be well-organized and show initiative
- Ability to multi-task efficiently in a highly interactive, interdisciplinary team environment
- Ability to adhere to standard operating protocols and maintain accurate records
- Reliable, dependable and consistent with tasks
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience with colony management, mouse handling, tissue sampling, injections and necropsy
- Basic understanding of animal welfare and ethics
- Experience with molecular biology techniques, such as DNA extraction and PCR or qPCR
- Aseptic culture technique
- Flexible and willing to work some evenings and weekends as needed to complete time-sensitive experiments
- Proficiency with MS Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
