Job Description
AI ENGINEER
Compensation: $70,000 -$110,000 / year
Full-Time | On-Site — Miami, FL | Reports to: Operations
Private Credit | Equipment & Real Estate Lending
THE ROLE
East Harbor Financial is a private credit firm in Miami looking for driven AI engineers to build tools that make us faster, sharper, and harder to compete with.
This isn't a research role. You'll be building — automating deal workflows, extracting data from financial documents, building internal tools that save the team hours of manual work, and developing AI-powered features that improve how we operate and serve our clients. You'll work across the entire firm: deal processing, underwriting, closing, portfolio management, and client-facing operations.
We're a small team. There's no AI department to plug into — you'll be the one building it. If that sounds like a challenge, good. That's the point.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Internal Automation & Tooling
• Build AI-driven workflows to automate repetitive financial processes: document classification, data extraction from credit reports, bank statements, tax returns, and closing packages
• Develop internal tools that streamline deal pipeline tracking, checklist management, and compliance monitoring
• Integrate AI capabilities into existing systems — automate what's manual, improve what's slow
• Build and maintain data pipelines for financial document ingestion and processing
• Create dashboards, alerts, and reporting tools that give the team real-time visibility into deal status and portfolio health
Client-Facing & Product Development
• Help design and build AI-powered features that enhance the borrower and broker experience
• Develop tools for faster deal intake, automated document collection, and intelligent status updates
• Build prototypes and MVPs — test ideas quickly, iterate based on feedback, ship what works
• Work with the team to identify where AI creates a competitive edge in private lending
AI/ML Engineering
• Work with large language models (LLMs) — build prompts, agents, tool-calling workflows, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems
• Fine-tune and deploy models for domain-specific tasks: financial document parsing, entity extraction, risk signal detection
• Evaluate and integrate third-party AI services and APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source models)
• Stay current on AI tooling and bring new capabilities into the firm as the landscape evolves
WHO YOU ARE
• A builder. You don't just study AI — you ship things. Side projects, hackathon wins, open-source contributions, personal tools — show us what you've made.
• Comfortable in code. Python is your primary language. You know your way around APIs, databases, and cloud infrastructure.
• Curious about finance. You don't need a finance degree, but you're interested in how lending works and you're willing to learn the domain deeply.
• Resourceful. When a library doesn't do what you need, you build around it. When the docs are thin, you figure it out.
• A clear communicator. You can explain a technical approach to a non-technical team and translate business problems into engineering solutions.
• Self-directed. You'll have guidance, but not hand-holding. You manage your own priorities and ask smart questions when you're stuck.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative field — or equivalent demonstrated experience
• Proficiency in Python and experience building software beyond coursework
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, or AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, or similar)
• Familiarity with APIs, databases (SQL and/or NoSQL), and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Understanding of version control (Git) and software development best practices
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn new domains quickly
Preferred
• Portfolio of personal projects, open-source contributions, or deployed AI applications
• Experience with RAG systems, vector databases, or AI agent frameworks
• Familiarity with document processing, OCR, or structured data extraction from unstructured sources
• Exposure to financial services, lending, or accounting data
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript or full-stack development
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
WHAT WE OFFER
• Competitive salary commensurate with experience
• Ground-floor opportunity to build the AI function at a growing private credit firm — you're not maintaining someone else's system, you're creating it
• Direct exposure to every part of the business: deals, underwriting, closing, portfolio management, and strategy
• A lean team where your work ships fast and has immediate, visible impact
