Job Description
The Mission Critical Group team in Brookston, Indiana specializes in designing and building custom electrical switchgear and controls for a variety of applications. We engineer, build, and deploy specialized switchgear and control systems for the power generation industry. We are agile, fast-paced, and our goal is to provide our customers with clever, cost-effective products and solutions. Under the direct supervision of our shop manager, the Wiring Technician Lead performs electrical wiring and installation work on assigned switchgear. The overall objective of this position is to lead a team of craftsman to accomplish assembly and wiring tasks necessary to build electrical control and distribution equipment and ensure accuracy and compliance with quality standards. Consistent and accurate representation of the Mission Critical Group brand, mission, vision, values, and organizational strategy are essential to achieving the goals of the organization.
Accountabilities
- Supervise and schedule assembly and wiring team on projects to meet quality standards and on‐time shipment requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and direct corrective action of assembly and wiring teams by ensuring efficient installation and wiring of switchgear and power control system components.
- Train personnel in all areas of assembly and wiring, while providing expertise to Field Service Technicians on the floor or on‐site for optimal client responsiveness and feedback capabilities.
- Provide positive reinforcement, constructive feedback, coaching, and mentorship to team members and provide recommendations for promotions and terminations to the Shop Manager.
- Wiring of control panels and switchboards, by following wiring diagram instructions.
- Point to point wiring, crimping/cutting wire, and wire labeling
- Perform general housekeeping duties as necessary or other assigned duties.
- Responsible for personal and area safety
Qualifications
Require knowledge/Experience
- 6+ years of switchgear wiring and assembly in a manufacturing facility.
- Intrapersonal Skills: Self‐motivated and able to identify, examine, and resolve issues independently from others. Hold a strong regard for guidelines, procedures and integrity.
- Engineering and Technology: Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
- Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Design: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Tools include: Digital multimeter, AC Dielectric Test Set, DC dielectric Test Set, Insulation Tester (Megger), Secondary Injection Units (Voltage & Current), Standard hand Tools, calculator
- Management of Personnel Resources: Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
- Computers and Electronics: Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming such as Microsoft Office Business Suite; knowledge of accounting software.
- Verbal & Written Communication Skills: This position requires basic skills (Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.)
- Math Skills: This position requires basic math skills.
Supervisory Requirements
- Directly manages, coaches, and develops a team of wiring technicians
- Performs supervisory responsibilities by managing and allocating employee resources in accordance with company policies, applicable laws, and company initiatives/goals.
- Responsibilities include developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work (including scheduling); appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Acts as a change agent and develops a high‐performing team in the spirit of exceptional service to all internal and external partners
Preferred
- 3 years of experience supervising a team of 5 or more in a manufacturing environment.
Education
- High School Diploma/GED.
