Job Description
Summary: Cooper Machinery Services provides natural gas compression equipment and services to customers globally in the Oil & Gas, Power, Transportation, and Marine sectors. The Project Engineer supports refurbishment, repair, and repurpose projects by performing inspections, developing detailed work scopes, and providing technical support to customers and colleagues.
Responsibilities:
- Perform initial inspection and measurements for refurbishment, repair, and repurposing projects
- Develop work scopes and procedures for the above listed project types
- Develop the necessary model simulations, component designs, assembly prints, and bill of materials for the above listed project types
- Facilitate document retention for engineering measurements and reports. Engineers will produce high-level engineering reports when necessary
- Assist in project management type tasks for the above listed project types
- Provide technical support for aftermarket products to customers and Cooper colleagues
- Perform all engineering measurements for cylinder and component replacements, re-designs, and reverse engineering. This information is organized and communicated to the Engineering Design team. Measurements of this type are performed in-house or in-field
- Travel on-site for measurement trips, installation support, troubleshooting, or overall engineering representation for Cooper-led projects
- Assist with technical questions from the shop floor and due to proximity of the engineering bay to the shop bay – will assist in providing a necessary engineering presence on the shop floor
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology degree
- Entry level: 0–2 years of relevant experience; internships, co‑ops, senior projects, lab or field placements, and early-career engineering or technical roles all count
- Early career candidates welcome: Recent graduates with internship, capstone, or up to 2 years' practical experience
- Some knowledge or interest in 3-D Laser Scanner Technology for the purpose of reverse engineering and inspections
- Ability to use Mechanical Engineering background or education to display strong analytical acumen, particularly related to stress or failure analysis reports
- Ability to use CAD software for new designs and/or modelling of existing components as part of reverse engineering purposes
- Analytical mindset to identify root causes of issues and implement effective solutions
- Ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships with customers
- Understanding basic Reciprocating Compressor functions with the ability to utilize knowledge to diagnose and trouble-shoot issues
- Demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

- Prior experience that demonstrates a strong work ethic and ability to multi-task
