Job Description
Summary: CNU's Center For American Studies is seeking a Rigging and Safety Supervisor to oversee the design, installation, maintenance, and safe operation of overhead rigging systems. The role involves managing rigging crews, conducting equipment inspections, and developing safety standards in collaboration with the University’s Office of Health and Safety.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees the design, installation, maintenance, and safe operation of overhead rigging systems used to lift scenery, lighting, and sound equipment
- Ensures compliance with industry standards (e.g., OSHA, PLASA/ESTA) to protect performers and crew
- Manages both internal and external rigging crews
- Conducts equipment inspections
- Develops and maintains the Ferguson Center’s safety standards
- Codifies the Ferguson Center Safety Standards and creates and implements a training program
- Implements appropriate processes and procedures for live events and performances that align with both industry and University standards
Required Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent education/experience that equates to a high school diploma
- Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP) certification in theatre and/or arena rigging
- Certification on JLG lifts
- Experience with the installation of chain motors, trusses, lighting, sound, scenery, and automated rigging systems
- Experience with single purchase fly rail systems, ropes, knots, and load calculations
- Ability to work effectively with others and possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
- Demonstrated expertise in theatrical or arena rigging, or, in some cases, human flight/aerial rigging
- Ability to work long, irregular hours, including nights and weekends, for extended periods as dictated by the event schedule
- Employee must be able to work on ladders, personnel lifts, and catwalks; be comfortable with heights up to 75 feet
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in closely related field or equivalent years of experience
- Experience with Theater fly rail installation
- Experience conducting regular safety inspections, maintaining fire code compliance, and enforcement of safety protocols for all overhead equipment
- Experience working at heights
