Job Description
Summary: The City of Topeka is seeking a licensed Journeyman Electrician to join its Planning and Development Services team as an Electrical Inspector. This entry level position is responsible for conducting inspections, verifying compliance with Municipal Building Codes and related ordinances, and supporting safe electrical practices.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect residential and commercial buildings during and after construction
- Identify and document violations and unsafe conditions
- Issue notices and orders for corrective actions
- Write reports detailing inspection findings
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Must be a licensed Journeyman Electrician
- Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license and city insurable driving record
- Must obtain an Electrical Inspector Certification within 18 months of the date of hire
- Additional licenses or certifications may be required
Preferred Qualifications:
- The ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Knowledge of the electrical construction industry
- An aptitude for technology and is proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite
