Mission is located on the unceded, ancestral, and shared territory of the Stó:lō Peoples, specifically on Leq’á:mel, Semá:th, Máthexwi, Kwantlen, Sq’éwlets, and Katzie traditional territories in the lower mainland of BC. Job Description
The City of Mission is seeking a Facilities Operations Attendant 1 to join our Facilities team. This part-time position performs a variety of janitorial, custodial, and minor maintenance duties at facilities operated by the department, including ice arenas, pool facilities, public service areas, administration spaces, and multi-purpose rooms. Duties include performing cleaning and refurbishing tasks such as dusting, washing, polishing, mopping, scrubbing, stripping and waxing floors, cleaning washrooms, and replenishing supplies. The role also involves operating and maintaining cleaning equipment, collecting and disposing of refuse and recycling, performing outside grounds maintenance including snow and ice removal, and assisting with room set-ups for meetings, programs, and rentals.
Additional responsibilities include performing minor maintenance and repair tasks such as replacing lighting components, ceiling panels, and fixtures, conducting pool tests, and carrying out minor repairs to doors, windows, furniture, appliances, sinks, and toilets. The successful candidate will help maintain the security of facilities, respond to alarms and emergencies, notify supervisors of safety concerns and more complex repair needs, maintain basic records, and assist with the training and orientation of new staff. The position also requires establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with municipal staff, external agencies, user groups, and members of the public while providing courteous and professional customer service.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of building cleaning methods, commercial cleaning products and equipment, and safe work practices related to custodial and facility maintenance work. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment are essential. Candidates must possess sufficient physical strength and stamina to perform the required duties.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, a Building Service Worker Certificate or recognized equivalent, Refrigeration Safety Awareness Certification, Basic First Aid certification, and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence. A minimum of six months’ experience in building operations and maintenance, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, is required.
Additional Information
This part-time position works Sunday to Tuesday from 12:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. The hourly rate is $33.79 plus an additional 12.5% shift premium for night shift hours.
