Job Description
Summary: The City and County of San Francisco is seeking a Human Services Technician to assist Social Workers and Protective Services Workers in the Family and Children’s Services program. The role involves providing supportive services to children and adolescents, including supervision, transportation, and ensuring their safety and well-being.
Responsibilities:
- Transport children to their identified foster-care placements, scheduled family visits, and other appointments (install car seats into vehicles when required)
- Supervise children to ensure their safety and wellbeing and engage with children through a variety of activities
- Supervise contact between children and their parent during 'Family Time' contact
- Provide nurturing care for neglected or abused children
- Monitor the medical and psychological needs of children
- Complete a variety of forms containing confidential information including, but not limited to: medical information, case records, appointments, and scheduled visits
- Perform general office tasks including photocopying, filing, answering telephone, and using computers and casework management systems
- Communicate via email and telephone with foster-care placement units, supervisors, Protective Service Workers, coworkers, and other individuals as required to schedule various activities for children
- Carry small children and/or items weighing up to 40 pounds
- De-escalate crisis situations for the protection and care of the child and/or their families
- Restock inventory of food, clothing, and other supplies
Required Qualifications:
- One (1) year of experience in a position which has direct responsibility for the care of children in a public or private setting
- Possession of a CA driver's license - Class C
- Ability to provide DMV record - required upon referral
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
- Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and a good driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fifteen (15) semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework, from an accredited college or university, in child development, social welfare, social/human service, sociology, or other social or behavioral science may be substituted for up to six (6) months of the required experience
