We aim to create an engaged team that reflects the clients and communities we serve.
What You’ll Be Doing
When you join the CIBC CPA Rotational Leadership Program (“the Program”), you’ll gain hands-on experience in Finance and Internal Audit under the guidance of experienced professionals. You’ll be paired with an approved CPA Mentor who will support your development as you work toward your CPA designation.
Over the course of the 24-month Program (time to completion will be closer to 30 months providing you time for vacation, study, and the CPA Professional Readiness Module), you will follow a work plan that will ensure you meet the Experience Requirements for your Professional Work Experience.
The Program has been designed so you’ll complete the CPA Professional Program requirements and make progress toward earning your CPA designation:
In Year 1, you’ll spend 11 months (counts towards 10-months work experience) in Internal Audit and have an opportunity to gain Assurance experience by planning and conducting risk-based audits while rotating through multiple audit teams that support different lines of business and building your knowledge of CIBC businesses. You’ll assess the design and operational effectiveness of controls, working directly with business management and communicating issues along with action plans for their resolution.
In Year 2, you’ll spend 15+ months in Finance (counts towards 14-months work experience) and be accountable for financial analysis and reporting, including the preparation and reconciliation of financial information and the development of new or enhanced reporting systems, policies, procedures and controls to meet user requirements and changing circumstances.
You’ll have the option to select an elective third year rotation to broaden or deepen your experience with assurance, accounting, taxation or other teams while planning for your next career role at CIBC. Your final year may be spent in one of our CFO Groups (Personal & Business Banking, Wealth Management, Treasury, or Capital Markets), Asset Management, Investor Relations, Internal Audit or Finance Shared Services based on your preferred area of focus and business needs.
Throughout the Program, you will build knowledge of our clients and business, emerging opportunities and threats to the banking industry, and changing external regulations and accounting requirements, with an opportunity to add value to CIBC.
Please note that rotation durations and program start dates may be subject to change and adjusted in response to updates in CPAO’s education requirements as they are announced.
