Job Description
Summary: California Correctional Health Care Services is seeking an Accounting Officer/Accountant Trainee to perform professional accounting duties for the Department of Justice. The role involves overseeing billing accounts, preparing necessary documents, and verifying the accuracy and legality of financial postings.
Responsibilities:
- Perform the professional accounting duties of average difficulty with the first journey-person level of the Accounting Officer series for the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Fiscal Services (OFS), Accounting Office
- Oversees various program billing accounts and contracts
- Organize, review and prepares necessary documents in preparation of billing program accounts and contracts
- Acts as a DOJ resource to provide assistance to departmental staff and outside client agencies
- Verify documents for posting accuracy, correctness, and legality within specific provisions of the law to allow for collection measure from various departments, local governments and other entities
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Ability to analyze data, draw sound conclusions, and make recommendations
- Ability to organize and establish workload priorities, work well under pressure, and exercise initiative and flexibility
- Ability to multi-task
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and cooperatively with others
- Knowledge and experience with personal computers and Microsoft Office
- Self-motivated, dependable, and a positive attitude
- A fingerprint check will be required
