Job Description:
The Manager, Truck ServiceTraining,is responsible for the enterprise strategy, development, and execution of all technical training programs supporting TA’s truck service operations. This role ensures that technician and trainer capabilities are fully aligned with TA business processes, OEM standards, and regulatory requirements, while directly improving technician productivity, service quality, safety, and revenue performance.
This positionleadsthe end-to-end training ecosystem, includingcoordinatingcurriculum development, trainer certification, ASE program management, and delivery across multiple training facilities and mobile maintenance operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
1.Training Strategy & Business Alignment
Develop and execute a comprehensive technical training strategy aligned with company operational and financial goals
Ensure all training programs support field execution, and customer service expectations
Establish and track KPIs tied to technician productivity, quality, safety, and retention
2.Curriculum Development & Governance
Own thecoordinationofdevelopmentand continuous improvement of all technical training curriculum, including:
Diesel, trailer, tire, and mobile maintenance
Advanced diagnostics and emerging technologies
Ensure training content is consistently aligned with:
TA business processes (bpOMS andTAWay)
OEM standards and updates
Regulatory requirements (DOT, OSHA, EPA)
Implement blended learning approaches (classroom, virtual, e-learning, hands-on)
3.Trainer Management & Development
Lead, coach, and develop all technical trainers across training centers and mobile operations
Ensure all trainers receive ongoing technical and instructional upskilling
Standardizetraining delivery to ensure consistent quality and effectivenessacross multiple locations
4.ASE Program Leadership
Manage and expand the ASE certification program across the technicianand shop managementworkforce
Drive increased certification rates aligned with career progression and compensation models
Serve as the primary liaison with ASE and other certification bodies
5.Training Operations (Multi-Site & Mobile)
Oversee operations ofmultipletraining facilities, ensuring efficient scheduling, resource utilization, and delivery quality
Lead mobile maintenance training efforts, ensuring field technicians receive consistent and practical instruction
Ensure training is scalable and responsive to field demand andTSoperational priorities
6.Field Integration & Performance Improvement
Partner withTSOperations leadership to identify skill gaps impacting performance
Deploy targeted training solutions to improve:
Technician efficiency
Reducedwaittimes
Reduction inwarranties
Ensure training is embedded into daily operations, not isolated from the field
7.Compliance & Industry Alignment
Maintain training alignment with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes
Ensure all technician training meets safetyindustry,and compliance standards
8.Financial & Performance Accountability
Lead training budget with a focus on cost efficiency and return on investment
Quantify andreportthe impact of training on:
Revenue growth
Labor productivity
Warrantyreduction
9.Vendor & Stakeholder Management
Establish and handle relationships with OEMs, training vendors, and external partners
Collaborate cross-functionally withTSOperations,P&C, and Fleet stakeholders(Sales)to ensure alignment
Qualifications
5-7+ years of experience in Class 8 truck/trailer maintenance, technical training, or related leadership roles.
Ability to network with industry contracts.
Strong knowledge of diesel systems, trailer systems, and diagnostic practices.
Excellentcommunication and analytical skills.
Experience leading multi-site operations or large-scale programs.
Deep understanding of ASE certification programs and technician development pathways.
Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations.
Proven track record to link training programs to operational and financial performance.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
Ability to develop instructionally sound content.
Ability to manage multiple competing projects and deadlines as well as the workload of others.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Must be a self-starter, work independently and well within a team environment.
Flexibility in personal schedule to accommodate live and virtual training events.
Must have an agile work ethic, able to manage multi-step procedures, handle interruptions in workflow and prioritization in a fast-paced environment.
High level written and verbal communication skills, strong decision-making ability, and excellent attention to detail.
Able to maintain strict confidentiality of corporate information.
Physical Requirements
Requires extensive sitting, viewing, and applying computer equipment, keyboarding, listening, and speaking with telephone equipment,walking,and occasionally lifting 10 to 40 lbs. field travel required via automobile and/or airplane. While not traveling, position has no exposure to adverse working conditions.
