Job Description
Summary: Baxter International Inc. is committed to redefining healthcare delivery and making a greater impact on lives. The Pharma R&D intern will gain practical experience by working on meaningful projects that support new product development and existing product support within the Baxter Pharmaceuticals business segment.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct technology evaluations and investigate the feasibility of potential opportunities for the Baxter Pharmaceuticals business
- Work under the direction and with the guidance of Baxter engineers and scientists
- Perform literature research and laboratory prototyping and testing
- Communicate ideas and findings to the Pharma R&D organization
- The Pharma R&D intern will be responsible for understanding, unlocking, and experimenting with new instruments for the determination of Molecular Weight and other parameters
- Complex intravenous formulations will be studied, with a broad range of molecular species to be characterized
- The effects of various conditions (formulation pH, thermal treatment, excipients) on the data will also be investigated
- Will play a supporting role in two simultaneous feasibility efforts which will culminate in the Entry to Development stagegate
- The Process Development R&D intern will update manufacturing documents based on filter validation reports, attend R&D batches and support other team members in R&D projects on an as needed basis
Required Qualifications:
- Rising Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Physics
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and problem-solving skills
- Positive attitude, team-oriented, adaptive to change, and collaborative
- Actively involved in campus or community activities and organizations, preferably in leadership roles
- This internship requires the candidate to be local to the Round Lake, IL office
