Job Description:
Position Summary: The purpose of this position is to support the planning, implementation, and coordination of safety and environmental programs to encourage safe working practices while preventing or correcting unsafe working conditions. This person will address and report conditions that could have a negative impact on associates and the company.
Competencies:
Health & Safety Professional Knowledge (Including Regulatory Compliance) - Associate is competent in knowledge that relates to having a comprehensive understanding of occupational safety and health compliance. Regulatory compliance refers to the regulatory requirements imposed by local, state, provincial, national, and international organizations on the industry. Detailed understanding of how the provisions of the regulations, as applicable, may be implemented in the workplace, rights and responsibilities under the various acts/ regulations/ rules, the appeals process, and record keeping (OSHA). Understanding of general industry standards and the requirements of the more frequently referenced standards.
Incident Investigation – Associate is competent with the method of reporting the occurrence of an occupational injury/illness, near miss, or property damage. Incident investigations determine the causes and circumstances of these failures. An associate should be able to perform a thorough, effective incident investigation, including root cause analysis, 5-why analysis, and development of practical corrective actions.
Communication – Associate is competent with Written and Verbal skills- Effectively expresses messages and ideas in a clear, organized, and relevant manner for a variety of audiences. Develops organized, complete, and convincing communications. Conveys thoughts and ideas regarding a topic concisely and clearly. Ability to communicate without increasing either the associate's or the employer's liability. Ability to communicate effectively at different levels of the organization. Communicates information at a level appropriate for the intended audience. Effectively presents messages to individuals and/or small and large groups. Uses appropriate style, grammar, and tone in informal and/or formal business messages. Reviews and edits written work constructively. Delivers messages with the desired effect. Prepares necessary support materials for meetings, which may include agendas and/or pre-read documents. Uses appropriate tone and body language to deliver messages. Separates personal biases from fact. Positively expresses messages, focusing on strengths rather than weaknesses.
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Excellent working knowledge of computer systems and spreadsheets is necessary to perform job duties.
Ability to obtain and follow HSE regulations as they apply to manufacturing.
Preferred Qualifications:
AS or BS Degree in Engineering, Science, or related HSE field.
5 years of HSE experience either as an HSE professional or in a manufacturing environment.
Environmental Regulations (RCRA, Clean Air/air permitting, NPDES, EPCRA).

Skills and Abilities:
Ability to maintain a high level of flexibility and be able to adapt to changing requirements and priorities.
Proven ability to:
Confer with and prepare reports and presentations for the HSE Coordinator and Manager as needed.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations within areas of responsibility.
Interacts with various levels of associates.
Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand, and confer with all departments to assess the feasibility of projects.
Investigate and recommend cost-saving and efficiency improvement ideas for the facility.
Manage the chemical safety program and maintain safety and industrial health programs to prevent, correct, or control unsafe conditions and ensure compliance.
Examine plans and specifications for new machinery or equipment to determine if all safety requirements have been included.
Assist with the design or selection of safety devices for machinery or safety clothing, and work with appropriate personnel to direct the installation of safety devices on machinery.
Conduct or coordinate training of workers concerning safety laws and regulations, use of safety equipment, devices, clothing, and first aid, etc.
Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Conduct or direct, plant or area, surveys or tests to determine safety levels and/or compliance for exposure to materials and conditions.
