Position: Art Gallery Assistant Director
Hours: 20 hours per week
Pay Rate: $20.27/hr (effective July 1, 2026)

About the Art Gallery
The Associated Students Art Gallery is located on the top floor of the Student Center. Our student funded and
student staffed gallery is dedicated to amplifying artistic works of artists on and off campus. We curate/provide
exhibitions that feature artists at any stage in their career. The gallery hosts exhibits, popup shows, and receptions
annually.
Position Summary
The Art Gallery Assistant Director supports the Art Gallery Director in the daily operations of the gallery,
assisting with exhibitions, marketing, administrative tasks, and visitor engagement. This position is ideal for a
student pursuing a degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, or a related field who wants hands-on
experience in gallery management.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
● Provides suggestions and feedback to the Director for upcoming events.
● Assists Director in researching and scheduling new artists & networks to increase artist
presence and gallery visibility.
● Trains interns of gallery operations, exhibition preparation, mailing, and publicity.
● Collaborates with the art gallery team on the execution of upcoming exhibitions and
greets gallery visitors during regular business hours.
● Assists Director with exhibition setup, artwork installation, and event coordination.
● Provide support during exhibition openings, artist talks, and receptions.
● Contribute to the gallery’s social media and website updates.
● Fosters relationships with collaborators, such as, AS programs and other university
entities
● Assists Director with coordinating gallery exhibits each semester
● Oversees the Program’s Internship by tracking intern hours and supporting with onboarding and
end of semester intern recognition
● Supports with design and social media requests to create marketing materials for annual and
outreach events
● Contributes to and submits written monthly and annual reports to Supervisor
Qualifications:
● Be currently enrolled at SFSU with a minimum of 6 units a semester for undergraduates or 4
units for graduates.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
● Strong computer competency: spreadsheets, word processing programs, memos,
organizing meetings, and filing
Preferred:
- Art History, Studio, IAC Museum Studies, Ethnic Studies, Sociology, and related
- Familiar with Mac, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or social media platforms
- Knowledge in exhibition design and preparation
- Knowledge of art handling

- Strong computer competency (Macintosh) to include spreadsheet, word processing programs, writing memos, organizing meetings, and filling.
