Job Description
Summary: Amentum is focused on space exploration, aiming to put people on the Moon and Mars. As an intern in the Space Exploration Division, you will collaborate with engineers and scientists on hardware development and simulation for various space programs, particularly supporting the Human Lander System Program.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, modify, and maintain software simulations, tools, and scripts
- Create, edit, and debug software written in Matlab, Simulink, and/or Simscape Multibody
- Model, simulate, and analyze launch vehicle and/or spacecraft dynamics and performance
- Analyze systems in the time and frequency domain
- Work with GN&C leads and other engineering disciplines
- Support verification and validation of technical products
- Prepare and present technical reports and/or briefings
- Create and review engineering and software documentation
Required Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in a MS or PhD degree program in science, technical, engineering, math, computer science, or related degree program is required
- Degree program at an ABET accredited institution preferred
- Programming in Matlab, Simulink, Simscape Multibody, and/or C/C++
- Experience preparing, presenting, and reviewing technical reports and briefings including analysis and software documentation
- Must be detail oriented and self-motivated that can work independently and collaboratively
- Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Maintain an overall average of 3.0
Preferred Qualifications:
- Developing GUIs in Matlab
- Programming in Python
- Academic work, experience, or demonstrated interest in control systems design/analysis
- Academic or work experience modeling, simulating, and analyzing the performance of aerospace vehicles in the time domain
- Experience improving analysis tools and/or controls models
- Familiar with conducting unit tests and analyses for simulation/software development, verification, and validation
- Conducting controls related trade, parametric, and failure analysis studies
- Analyzing systems for stability margin in the frequency domain (Nichols, Bode, Nyquist, Root Locus)
- Deriving state equations related to space craft and launch vehicle systems
- Conducting design and development of flight control systems including PID control gain design, state estimation, adaptive control, neural networks, or other advanced control methods
- Implementing machine learning algorithms for controls, modeling, system identification, or other aerospace applications
- Creating visualizations in 3D tools such as Terragen, STK, or Unreal Engine
