Job Description
Ambassador Christian School opened in August 2024. Over the next few years, the school will grow to 1000 in high school and is seeking to build dynamic programs in academics, athletics, fine arts, industrial arts, and service. The school is well-positioned on a 29-acre campus with an 80,000 sq ft building in the growing suburbs of north Charlotte.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Director of College Advising at Ambassador Christian School plays a vital role in guiding students and families through the college admissions process, ensuring they are well-prepared for higher education and future career opportunities. This position supports the Director of College Advising in implementing career and college readiness programs, providing individualized counseling, and fostering strong relationships with colleges and universities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• College Counseling & Advising
• Provide individualized college and career counseling to students in grades 9-12.
• Assist students in identifying potential colleges, universities, and career pathways aligned with their academic and personal goals.
• Guide students through the college application process, including essay writing, financial aid applications, and scholarship opportunities.
• Support students in preparing for standardized tests such as the SAT, ACT, and AP exams.
• Organize and lead a summer bootcamp for rising seniors to work through the college application process.
• Program Development & Implementation
• Collaborate with the Director to develop and implement college readiness programs, workshops, and events.
• Coordinate college visits, college fairs, and meetings with college representatives.
• Assist in planning and executing parent information sessions on college admissions, financial aid, and career readiness.
• Assist the Director with planning the annual Ambassador Summit where career and aptitude assessments are administered and evaluated.
• Advisory Program
• Support the school's advisory program by providing resources and guidance on college and career planning.
• Work with faculty advisors to integrate college readiness discussions into the advisory curriculum.
• Facilitate workshops and group discussions to enhance students' understanding of the college process.
• Student & Family Engagement
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with students and families to provide ongoing support throughout the college selection and application process.
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding their child’s college planning progress.
• Serve as a resource for students seeking internships, summer programs, and other enrichment opportunities.
• Administrative & Data Management
• Maintain accurate records of students’ college applications, acceptances, and scholarships.
• Assist in the preparation of recommendation letters and school reports.
• Stay informed about trends and changes in college admissions to provide the most up-to-date guidance.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
• Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• 3+ years of experience in college counseling, academic advising, or a related field preferred.
• Strong knowledge of college admissions processes, financial aid, and standardized testing.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and school staff.
• Proficiency in college counseling software (Scoir) and Google Suite.
• Commitment to the mission and values of Ambassador Christian School, integrating faith and learning in the college advising process.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & SCHEDULE:
• Full-time, 10-month position (2 weeks in the Summer).
• Occasional evening and weekend events required.
• Combination of office work, one-on-one meetings, and group presentations.
