Job Description
Summary: The Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL) is a coalition of foreign policy experts and young professionals dedicated to revitalizing American leadership through strategic investments in development. They are seeking Legislative Interns to support policy and legislative work, contributing to legislative research, congressional outreach, and drafting policy materials.
Responsibilities:
- Track legislation related to foreign aid, USAID, PEPFAR, and other relevant policy areas
- Monitor congressional committee activity, hearings, and Member statements
- Compile briefing materials on Members of Congress, including voting records and policy positions
- Research congressional offices and identify relevant staff contacts for outreach
- Support outreach to congressional offices through scheduling, follow-up, and tracking
- Help prepare for and follow up on Hill meetings
- Contribute to the drafting of policy briefs, talking points, and leave-behind documents
- Conduct background research to support policy positions and arguments
- Edit and proofread materials for accuracy, tone, and clarity
- Support the Legislative, Government Affairs, and Policy teams with administrative tasks, scheduling, and project tracking
- Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to ongoing initiatives
- Take on special projects as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Interest in foreign policy, international development, or U.S. national security
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a remote environment
- Reliable follow-through and willingness to take ownership of assigned work
- Commitment to A4AL's mission and values
Preferred Qualifications:
- Some familiarity with the U.S. Congress, the federal legislative process, or political campaigns
Required Skills: Legislative research, Congressional outreach, Policy brief drafting, U.S. Congress familiarity, Federal legislative process knowledge
