Business Underwriting & Portfolio Management Intern

About the Role
Responsibilities within Business Underwriting includes assisting to provide pricing, case underwriting matters and product development in adherence to risk acceptance and pricing guidelines.
Responsibilities within Portfolio Management includes assisting in management reporting to ensure timely and quality management information, data analytics support and reinsurance management to support in the divisions overall business strategic and operational goals.
Risk assessment and Pricing – Evaluate applications for group insurance policies in accordance to the company's underwriting standards, decide which risks to insure and outlines the terms of the acceptable policy and determines the rates or premiums, in order to minimize excessive risks and maximize profits.
Pricing Assumptions review – To support review and refresh of pricing assumptions and tools including experience analysis to support revamp in pricing structure.
Management Reporting – Prepare management reports, ensuring accuracy and timely submission. Includes preparing regulatory and industry reports submitted to MAS / LIA
Dashboards and Analytics – Create and maintain Tableau dashboards that provide quality management information to support business monitoring, decision-making and business strategy. Perform UAT for datamarts for use in dashboarding.
Reinsurance Management and Administration – Support reinsurance and pool administration to ensure timely and accurate reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
Others – Other responsibilities and duties periodically assigned in order to meet overall business strategic and operational goals, including ad-hoc projects related to data analytics / data enhancement.
Job Requirements
Education – Currently studying for a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Studies / Business / Accounting / Mathematics & Statistics
Technical Skills
o Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
Other Qualities
o Meticulous and detail-oriented
o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
o Able to work both independently and within a team
Learning Outcomes
Technical skills relevant for a future career in actuarial science and data analytics, e.g. insurance pricing, SQL coding, working with large insurance datasets, Tableau dashboards.
Gain first-hand insights into the insurance industry, especially in pricing, reporting, sales and operations of group and health insurance products.
