Only candidates who are permanent in the Administrative Engineer title or those who are reachable on the DDC promotional list (exam #5564) or the open-competitive list (exam #5163) may apply. The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Public Buildings is seeking two Assistant Commissioners. Under the direction of the Associate Commissioner, the selected candidates will each serve as Assistant Commissioner managing several program units within the division.
The selected candidates will oversee an annual capital construction program comprised of approximately 80 active projects, valued at approximately $1 billion. The Assistant Commissioners will manage approximately 40 professional staff, including program directors, deputy program directors, project managers, technical staff, administrative staff and construction management staff, responsible for projects from project initiation, through scope development, design, construction, and closeout phases. The selected candidates will ensure that all projects remain on schedule and costs are controlled and within budget. They will monitor, evaluate, direct, guide and manage, all employees within their units and address personnel issues expeditiously. They will monitor and evaluate the performance of consultants and contractors and address any deficiencies expeditiously. They will ensure timely resolution of all design, construction and procurement issues to ensure that projects are started and completed on time. In addition, the Assistant Commissioners will also participate in various agency task forces related to new initiatives, monitor and ensure compliance with the capital commitment plan goals for the current fiscal year, analyze and allocate staffing based upon complexity and program workload, develop procedures for project planning and management, provide reporting on status and progress of projects, set program goals, attend high-level meetings with sponsor agencies and DDC's Senior Management, and ensure all databases and records are maintained and updated.
Please note: All candidates must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.). Additionally, educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution. Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service. Qualifications
- A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer and six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.
